Skybus commuter airline shuts down abruptly pending bankruptcy protection scheduled for next week. Less than a year after starting up, Skybus who offered several 10 dollar flights, encountered numerous bumps financially, including the increasing cost of fuel. As explained on their website www.skybus.com, “Skybus struggled to overcome the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment. These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier.” In addition, all flights have been grounded as of April 5th. The airlines 400 plus employees learned of the shut down on Friday, April 4th. This unfortunate occurrence is yet more proof of the consequential chain effects of increasing gas prices
